The preschoolers recently learned about taking care of our teeth! We learned that if you don't brush your teeth they turn very yucky and get VERY dirty! This activity I have done quite a few times for dental health but it is a great activity to actually show them what happens when you don't brush your teeth and how brushing cleans them. I boiled eggs for the kiddos and soaked them in a red juice (any colored juice or dark pop works also). I let them soak over night and the became dirty. To start off our week we talked about why we use teeth. I got things from un-tying a know, ripping open a bag to chewing our food. :) I love the silly things they say! We next talked about why we brush our teeth and also related to taking a bath. What happens if we don't - we get dirty. I showed them the dirty eggs to give them a visual of what our teeth would look like. I got a lot of EWWS!
Here they are brushing our dirty 'teeth' with tooth brushes and toothpaste.
The lady in the picture above is Miss Heidi. She is filling in for Mrs. Pick while she is on her maternity leave! It was a great day when we found out that she had her baby!! Mrs. Pick had a little girl, Aberley Lynn. We are excited for when she comes back but are also thankful for Miss Heidi filling in and helping us!
To add some more fine motor skills while using different objects to do a craft we painted our yellow teeth clean with white paint and toothbrushes!
