Letter Qq and plants!

I have been MIA on this blog lately and I apologize.  These last few weeks of school have flown!  I feel like I can't catch up and get things finished before the Kinders graduate!

Our last and final letter we learned in Kindergarten was letter Qq.

We are using a Q-tip to paint a colorful quilt.

Since Arbor Day was coming up we had a guest speaker from the NRD come in and talk about the importance of trees.  Each Kinder got to take a tree home to plant!

In Science we learned about types of plants, why we need them, the parts of a plant and the life cycle of them.
Each Kinder got to plant some seeds!  They currently are taking care of  them in the classroom by making sure they are getting enough sunlight and have enough water.

Our graduation craft.

Look for the final result next blog post! :)

Addition dice math.  Roll and Add!

Parts of a plant craft.

To end our plant unit we got to eat each part of the plant.  We ate the seeds (sunflower seeds), the roots (carrots), the stem (celery), the leaves (lettuce) and the flower (cauliflower).   They had no idea that what they have been eating this whole time were part of a plant!

National Kinder Day and Earth Day!!!

This week the Kinders had a very busy and fun week.  We came back from our Easter break, got our chick eggs, celebrated National Kindergarten Day, learned about Earth Day and did our Earth Day project!

This week we started our last book in our reading series.  These units talk about ways we can build items.  We started off the unit by building a home for Leo the Leopard.  They were split into two groups and tried to build a home for him.  We talked about how it needs to be big enough for him to lay down, sit up and also protect him from the weather.

Jackie from the Cedar County Extension office came to talk about our chick eggs that we will be hopefully hatching in 18 days!!

This week we reviewed our vowels.  We focused on the vowels: Aa and Ii.  We split up into two groups. split up our sight words and went on a Aa and Ii vowel find.  They had to find a sight word with either Aa or Ii in it and write it on their big chart.

Building our Earth's for our Earth Day craft.

We talked about ways we can help our Earth so keep it beautiful and clean!

Finding picture words in our books that have the vowels: Aa and/or Ii.

One of our sight words for this week was: make.  We read a story about a family of warthogs making something in the kitchen.  At the end of the story they ended up making mess!
We listed words that rhymed with our sight word: make.

Our Pledge to care for our Earth!

Friday April 21 is National Kindergarten Day!  We celebrated the day by having a beach day!

Also on Friday we did our Earth Day project.  We walked around town and picked up some trash!

Since Jackie brought our eggs this week, we talked about the life cycle of a chicken and also learned about other animals that hatch from eggs.

Reading a story while relaxing at the beach.  While reading the story - there were some 'waves' that kept coming up to the beach and splashing them! :)    The ways that were splashing them was a little water bottle that was being sprayed at them.  They completely enjoyed it!

Ending our day with a snack outside - beach cupcakes!
