6 more weeks of Winter or Spring???

The question that everyone wants to know.... will we have six more weeks of Winter or six more weeks until Spring?  Here were our Kindergarten predictions about Phil the Groundhog.  The ones with yellow paper are the ones who thought that he will see his shadow and the ones with blue paper thought he would not.
February 2nd has come and gone!  Phil the Groundhog did see his shadow - 6 more weeks of Winter! I am not sure how I feel about that but I had some Kinders that were happy for more snow.

These last two weeks sure have flown by!  January came to and end and it is already February! Here the Kinders are working on their amazing words in their journals.  One of our words was: world.

We started our money unit.  We first learned how to identify heads and tails.  We played a game heads or tails.  They had to mark each time they got one or the other to see which side they got most of.

We learned about the different types of land forms - so of course we had to learn about volcanoes and make our own!

For one of our handwriting activities we read the book:  The Mitten  by Jan Brett.  They had to choose one of our animals from a calendar (yes a calendar-got to love those with big pictures of animals) and glue it in their mitten. They turned out super duper cute!

Working on heads/tails with our new coin: nickel!

Writing the room; finding the letter Ll in words.

One of our reading stories from the week was: The Three Little Pigs.  They had to decide what they would build their house out of: straw, sticks or bricks.  To incorporate writing in this they had to tell a reason why they choose to build their house that way.

Ll is for lady bug!

Putting our groundhogs together.

Working with partners on counting coins.

YAY! It's our 100th Day!!

We finally reached our 100th day of school on Feb. 2 which also landed on Groundhog Day!  It was a busy day/week for these Kindergartners!  This post will be a combination of Groundhog's Day, our 100th Day as well as some Valentine's Day activities that we did.

Here are some 'Bee Mine' Valentine Bees we made!  They turned out BEE-utiful! :)

We learned about Groundhog's Day and the purpose behind it.  We did a writing craft to go with learning about Groundhog's Day.  They each had to predict if the groundhog would see his shadow or not.  We added a cute little groundhog to make our writing a little more fun and cute!

We learned about ground hogs by using our: are, have and can chart.

Some of our 100th day decorations!

Our 100th writing.  They made themselves look like they were 100 years old.  They then had to think of something they would do when they are 100 years old.  Some of them are quite creative!

The Kindergartners had some homework to do for the big day!  They each had to list 8 of their favorite things.  When we put all our things together we had a total of 100 favorite things!  Yes we did count them! :)

They 100th day snack!

They also had to bring 100 items of their choice.  Here we are counting our 100 items and putting them into groups of 10.

Our 100th day poem we put in our journals.  They then wrote a big 100 on the other side and decorated it!

In Science these last few weeks we have been learning about water. We learned why we need it, who uses water, where we can find water and how water helps us.
Here is our new word chart about the word; water.

One of our sight words was; that.  They had to cut out two pictures from the magazine and then past it onto the line.  The sentence they wrote was:
That is a ________.

A Valentine's Day craft we made.  They each had to cut out 5 things they love.

Our Valentine's Day bears! Super cute!

Here is another anchor chart that we used when learning about where we can find water and the types of water.

For our Valentine's Day math we estimated how many candy hearts were in our boxes, sorted them out by color, counted them and then made graph based on the colors we had.

The Kindergarten Valentine's Day boxes they made!
They all turned out amazing!
