Happy Valentine's Day!!

It's been a very busy and fun week for the Kinders!  The letter of the week was letter Gg.
Our Gg craft was turning our lowercase g into a g full of grapes!

Starting on our Valentine's Day kisses craft!

Putting the finishing touches on our g's.

Our Reading story was Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  We read six different books about Goldilocks and the three bears.  We compared/contrasted them and voted which one was our favorite.

Here the Kinders are working on beats (syllables) in words.

Working on our Valentine's craft for our parents!

Our Valentine's Day candy heart math. We counted our hearts, sorted them by color and then graphed to see which one we had more/less of. Afterwards was the best part - we got to eat them! :)

We put up our g's on our door. When they left the room they had to say a word that had a /g/ at the beginning or at the end.

Here are some of their Valentine's Day boxes they made.  I apologize that I didn't get every Kinder in the picture with their box.

We did another Gg activity.  They had to color their gift and on their gift tags they had to write some Gg words.

Working on identify what vowels are in the words and then writing them in the correct vowel column.

Working with our sight words - they had to unscramble our sight words and identify what word it spelled.

We read a book There's a Giraffe in My Soup.  It is a cute little story about a boy that goes to a restaurant and every time the waiter brings out another bowl of soup, there is a different animal in it.  They had to imagine that they went to that restaurant.  What kind of animal was in your soup?  Here are some of their writings.

In Social Studies we learned about Presidents.  The two presidents that we learned were: George Washington and Abe Lincoln.  We don't have school on President's Day so that is why we did it early.

Working on our George Washington craft.

Here are our Valentine's Day Kisses all done! They turned out kiss-eriffic!

Our February door decor.

Here are our Abe Lincolns.  They had to think of something they would put in their hat, like what Abe Lincoln did with his.  The flap opens up and then shows what they would hide in their hats.

Happy President's Day!!

This week we had another five day week so we got to celebrate President's Day at school!  We first learned what/who a President is.  We used our new word chart to help us remember our new word: President.  They each had to draw themselves as a President.

We learned who/what a President is and what they do to help us.  We also learned about George Washington and Abe Lincoln.  Here is our George Washington writing activity and craft.  They had to think of two things that they learned about George Washington.

We had a special show and tell this week.  Someone brought some baby lambs!  I have been teaching for five years and this was a first for me!  We usually get dogs, cats, bunnies and baby calves brought in, but I have never had a baby lamb brought in.  They are so cute!  Thanks again for bringing them in!

We read two stories about; The Three Little Pigs.  We compared the two stories and then voted on which one we liked the best.

Our Abe Lincoln crafts.  We learned that Abe placed important papers and items in his hat.  They each got to think of some things they would like to put in their hats!  Some of them got quite creative and wanted some snacks in theirs (which consisted of some pickles, hot dogs and cupcakes).

This week we started a new chapter in Math.  We are currently learning about coins.  Before we got introduced to the different types of coins, we first learned the heads and tails side of coins.  We did a heads or tails flipping activity.  They had to color in a box each time they got a heads or tails.

Here is our chart that helped us learn about what a penny is.

In Science we focused on heavy/light as well as sink/float.  We weighed our heavy and light items on scales in the classroom and then used those same items for our sink/float experiment.  Some of them learned that their heavy item floated while their light item sank.
