Aa is for alligator!

This week the Kinders learned the letter Aa.  We identified words that started with the short Aa sound and also identified words that had the short Aa sound in the middle.

We read a story called Zack's Alligator.   They pointed out that both words had Aa in them!  We turned our Aa's into alligators!

We learned to write 6 & 7 this week.  We did some finger painting of our numbers.

We have been working with writing words and putting them into a sentence.  One of our sight words this week was is.  We read a story about fall and identified some of things we can do or that happens in fall.  They each thought of one word to write that reminds them of fall.  They have come so far with writing their words and are doing an AWESOME job!

In Science this week we learned about our five senses.  We went on a walk to see and listened to things, we touched different objects and identified how they felt, we also smelt different types of things that Mrs. Bartling brought in and also tasted something sour, sweet and salty.

Here is some of our journal work that we did for science.

We worked more with our nouns again this week.  We talked about how you can add an -s to the end of a word and it makes it to be more than one.  They each had to think of a noun to draw in their journal.  One side was one noun and the other one had that magic Ss to change it into more!

Aa is for Alligator!

The Kinders worked with the letter Aa this week.  We read a story about a boy named Zack who got an alligator as a gift from his uncle.  After the story we made alligators!

We then wrote the letter Aa on the top and wrote that big long word: alligator  - at the bottom.

Working on some sight word work for our journals.

Sight word fun - painting the word: have - using Q-tips.

The Kinders were part of a BIG event this week!  They helped to set a WORLD record! Jackie Steffen from the UNL Extension Office stopped our classroom to read a book called "Quackers."  Kids all over the nation are reading this book to set a WORLD record on how many times this book gets read to classrooms all over the nation.  The event is called Read for the Record.

This week in Science we learned about soil, rocks and pumpkins!  We learned that we use the soil to grow our pumpkins.  We also learned the life cycle of pumpkins, what we can use them for and also that pumpkins are not just orange.  Pumpkins can be: red, tan, white, green, yellow, orange and BLUE!

Some journal work with the letter Aa.

Finding the word:  is   - in our sight word poem.

Apple Day!

It's apple week!! To start off apple week, we learned about how apples grow and how there are so many different types of apples! Of course Johnny Appleseed day fell into our apple unit, so why not learn about him!  We learned how Johnny Appleseed planted apple trees all over to give us the apples we eat today. To end our Johnny Appleseed day, we watched a movie about him! They enjoyed watching the movie!
During our week long apple unit, we also taste tested some apples! We taste tested green, red and yellow Apples (letter of the week was of course the letter Aa!). The preschoolers got to choose the apple they like the most and color it's correct color on our apple sheet as well as our class apple graph.
One of the art projects we did this week was to make apple cores! We painted our apples and leaf. We then dotted brown seeds into the middle of our apple!

We finished our apple unit by making our own apple trees! We used green frosting, graham crackers and Twizzler Nibs for our apples. It was a very messy but yet a FUN activity! They liked spreading their own frosting, but I think their best part was they got to eat some of their left over frosting!  Below are some pictures of decorating their apple trees as well as the finished product.
