It's Apple Week!!

It's apple week in Kindergarten!! It was a very short three day week but we got it all done, by the time Friday afternoon came, man was I exhausted.  It was worth the exhaustion to see the Kindergartners so excited for apple week and seeing them learn!

The first day of fall was on Wednesday, so after reading our story, There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves we did some name leaves to decorate our board out in the hallway.  We used dot paints to decorate our leaves.

Dot painting during centers.

One of our poems we put in our journals.

Johnny Appleseed dot painting.

One of our math centers included roll and color Johnny.  They each had a dice and they had to roll it.  They counted the number of dots, if they still had that number on their paper they colored it and continued till all the numbers were colored.

During our apple week we also learned about a very important man who gave us those apple:  Johnny Appleseed.  Here is our fact anchor chart that we went over after we read our story.

Here are our name leaves all finished.

Here is one of our Johnny Appleseed crafts and writing that we did.  They had to write one fact about Johnny Appleseed.

The Kindergartners were also introduced what labels were.  We were introduced by labeling the parts of an apple.

A character map we filled out about Johnny and hung with our writings.

Another apple poem that we placed in our journals.  They had to draw two apple trees in the box.

We not only learned how apples grow, the parts of an apple and about Johnny Appleseed, we also learned about what all comes from apples.  We first made a list on what we think and already know comes from apples.

After reading our story about apples we went back to our list to see if any of our ideas were stated in the book.   Here is another apple craft and writing that we did for science.  They had to list and write one thing that their apple turned into.  I will say that all of my Kindergartners have GREAT handwriting already!

To help reinforce labeling and the parts of an apple, we made our own apple with the labels. Here we are labeling our apples.

One of our apple crafts in the hallway.

Friday was the most exciting day that they were waiting for all week.  We taste tested apples!!  Here is the chart that they had to fill out while we were doing our taste testing.

Using our new SMARTboard, they had to go up and choose which apple was their favorite.

Watching a Johnny Appleseed movie while enjoying our apple slices and some warm apple cider.

Green was the most favorite in Kindergarten this year.

I asked each child to bring in an apple for Friday.  We did some math using our apples.  They got to weigh and measure their apples.

We also made homemade applesauce on Friday.  In the afternoon it was ready for us to eat! Here are some pictures of them enjoying the applesauce.

Our labeling craft that we did.
