Ice cream! -hot/cold

This week we learned about our opposites: hot and cold.  We are still learning about the shape: crescent.  We learned a new letter, number and color this week!  We learned:  number 6, letter Ss and color blue.

Make sure you check out our Ice Cream album for more pictures!

We discussed what things are hot and cold. I had one little boy say (his exact words): "you can't touch a stove cause it very hot and it will hurt you, but you can touch a figitator cause it cold and gives me food."  :)  He is very right with the hot and cold! :)  We also learned the words and how to identify/read the words: hot and cold.  We categorized our colors hot and cold with colors.  When we talked about hot we would use the color red and the color blue when we talked about cold.

We started off the morning by coloring our letter I's with colored ice cubes! We explained that ice begins with the letter i and that it's cold.
The ice cubes consisted of water and a package of Kool-aid, which gave it that sweet yummy smell.  As you can see in some of the pictures the ice cubes are up to their noses.

Sorting out hot and cold items.

Since we now know and went over our numbers 1-5, I incorporate all the numbers we have learned so far plus the new number we are learning about.  This week not only focused on hot and cold but also ICE CREAM!!

This is one of our math activities that we did.  We had to put the correct number of ice cream scoops for each cone.  They noticed something happening with each number, the ice cream cones got bigger and the scoops got higher!!
Here is a pictures of the activity!

We learned a new color blue, so we colored a picture of a blue bird.

One of our art projects was a snowy scene through our window. Here is the finished project. We traced our hand/arm to use for a tree, glue on snow for the 'hill', our window frames and then went wild with our white snow. Some of them got a little carried away and made a complete white out bliizzard! :) It's their artwork and I let them be creative when it comes to that. I just smiled and asked them where their tree went. They pointed it out and said 'You can't see it cause the snow is too white' It is never a dull moment in preschool!!

I asked them what they thought was in it.  They guessed some crazy things.  One little guy popped up and said "I hope it's not a skunk because they smell!" Oh boy did I have their little brains a going.   We got our activities done and then we got to do our surprise!  I told them that it's cold and very yummy.  That same boy who hoped it wasn't a skunk thanked me for not bringing a skunk.

Since we are learning about hot and cold, the letter I and our theme was ice cream....we made homemade ice cream!

They got to measure up their own ingredients.  While we were shaking our bags, some of the bags got holes in them (the ones that held our milk, sugar and vanilla).  Lets just say some had really salty ice cream from the rock salt that was put with the ice.  They had a blast making it!  I told them we would do it again.  They told me not to put the salt in next time so it will be yummy.

Pouring ingredients.

Here comes the ice cubes!

Ready, set....SHAKE!!
