We continued our snow unit for the first week of January. We focused mostly on what we all could do out in the snow. We read a book called "Froggy gets Dressed", a very cute book. Froggy decides he doesn't want to hibernate anymore and instead wants to go out and play in the snow. Well, he continues to forget things he needs to wear before he goes outside. The things that he forgot made the preschoolers just giggle, which then made me giggle at them. :) They did a great job remembering what he all had on and what we all need to go on outside. They also did a great job guessing at what Froggy forgot.
We discussed all what Froggy would do when he got ready and went outside to play. I got anything from snow angels, building forts, to sledding down hills and falling off. One little guy reminded us not to eat yellow snow! :) Along with finishing up our snow unit, we learned about the letter Ss, the shape: crescent, the number 5 and color white.
One of the activities that we did was ice skating in our room! When I told what we were going to do, they looked at me like I was crazy. Ice skating in our room? Inside? Little did they know that I do know how to have fun and were very shocked at what were used for our skates, but their faces showed just how much fun they had! :)
We used paper plates for our ice skates. At first some of them said that it was hard, but once they got used to it and figured out how to move their feet, they were off!!
One of our art projects was a snowy scene through our window. Here is the finished project. We traced our hand/arm to use for a tree, glue on snow for the 'hill', our window frames and then went wild with our white snow. Some of them got a little carried away and made a complete white out bliizzard! :) It's their artwork and I let them be creative when it comes to that. I just smiled and asked them where their tree went. They pointed it out and said 'You can't see it cause the snow is too white' It is never a dull moment in preschool!!
Here are some of pictures of the preschoolers during our center time.
