This past week was an eventful week for the Kindergartners. We started our Presidents unit for President's Day, started to learn and count coins and it was also Valentine's week!!! The long week ended on a much needed fun day with our Valentine's Day party!
Working on center work: Writing bear facts.
Centers: Math centers - writing/drawing number that coincides with our reading story.
The first coin we learned about was a penny. We learned a few facts about the coin as well as learning to count it. We started off before learning about our coins with our heads/tails game. It helps them to identify which side is heads and tails.
The next coin we learned was nickels. We learned a few facts about nickels and practiced counting by 5's to count our nickels. Later on in the week the Kindergartners were introduced to counting one nickel with a few pennies. They caught on quickly learning to count on and count two different sets of coins.
For our Presidents Unit we first started off learning about our 1st President: George Washington. We read a few read alouds to learn more about his life as well as a few facts about him. We identified him on the quarter and dollar bill.
Abraham Lincoln was our next President we learned about. We also read some stories about him to help with the facts and to put an image in our heads of who he was and what he did. We learned that Abe Lincoln had a very special hat that help some secret items in it.
These are our little Valentine Bee's that we made to 'spruce' up our bulletin board in our room. They may be simple to do but they turned out super-dee-duper cute!
Center time: sounding out and spelling words.
Here is our Valentine's Day math that we did. They each got a box of candy hearts. They had to group them by color and start on their bar graph. We learned about graphs earlier so it was a good review. The best part was they got to eat them after they were done!
The Kindergartners' presenting their homework: their Valentine's Day boxes. I had one rule with them on these boxes. They could not tell me what they were making because I wanted it to be a surprise. I love seeing them when they bring them in on how proud they are of their own creations and their creativeness! They turned out extremely cute! I was sure surprised!
Having some party fun with some mustache whistles that Mrs. Bartling gave them. They had some sugar in a couple of these pictures!
Here are our crafts that we did for our Presidents Unit. They had to write two sentences about George Washington. I am sorry if it's hard to read their writing. If I had the flash off it was too dark you couldn't see and with the flash it was to bright like it is below.
Our Abe Lincoln craft. They each had a secret flap in their hat. The top part of the flap says:
Life Abraham Lincoln's hat to see __(student's name) would keep inside.
We listed some choices on chart paper of the things that we would keep in our hats. They had to choose one that they would keep and write it down.
All of our President crafts together out in the hallway.
