We have had a very busy January! As you can tell that I am just now getting to post up some things that we did and it's almost Valentine's Day! (Ugh). January was a very quick month that was filled with lots and lots of activities for the Kindergartners.
Rr is for Robot. We listed some Rr words and they had to write some Rr words on the parts of the robot.
One of our stories of the week in January revolved around Little Quack. I love Little Quack, he is sure one brave little duckling.
Before we read the story - we listed on where we think Little Quack would hide.
Doing some center work:
ABC Mouse on Computers
Stamping sounds
Working with color words.
In Science we learned about the importance of soil and why we need it. Here is one of our anchor charts about soil.
To help us understand what soil is - we did our new vocabulary word chart. They each drew what they think soil is (they did a very good job).
In math we started to work with identifying and sorting figures. Here we are doing some figures sorting in our journals.
One of the word families we have been working with is the: op family. They had to listen to the sound of the letter I was given them and write it down - then they had to blend the letters together to say the word.
One of our Science activities was making HOMEMADE MUD!! Very simple but yet very much and messy!!!
One of our snowmen crafts.
One of our letters of the week was the letter Dd.
We had a Kindergarten Dance off! It was fun!!!!
Some of our sights words in January were: look and see.
Here the Kindergartners are in their 'looking' glasses to see/look for things in the classroom.
We read this story before we used our lookers to go around the room.
A snowman quiet activity - they are reusable stickers to make your own snowman!
Here they are writing some Dd words on their petals - when we put our petals together we made a Daisy!!
Another snowman project (can you tell that I LOVE snowmen?)
We learned about the seasons. We made hand print seasons for each season. I didn't get the picture of the other seasons (sorry). The Spring tree had purple flowers, the Summer tree had green leaves and the Fall tree had yellow, orange and red leaves.
Another letter we learned was the letter Kk. Here they are writing some Kk words on a giant kiss.
We also celebrated Martin Luther King Jr.. We learned who he was, why he is so important, why we have a holiday for him, what it was like for the coloreds, how to be a good friend and not a bully.
I asked them to pretend they were MLK Jr. They had to think of a dream that they would want for everyone! They were very creative and nice dreams!
Of course we had to make MLK Jr. with our dreams. :)
We had a new student in our class: Billy the Bully. We listed some things that Billy the Bully would do and how he is not a good friend. After discussing the importance of not being a bully - Billy the Bully turned into Frank the Friend!
After reading The Crayon Box that Talked (one of my favorites) we did a coloring activity. They had to draw and copy a picture on the board only using 1 color. They said it looked so boring! Which is perfect!
We then drew the same exact picture using all different colors. We then discussed that our picture is complete. We don't all want to be one color - we want to have lots and lots of different colors to help make our picture complete!
This is one of my favorite activities to use to help show the kiddos that it doesn't matter what we look like on the outside we are all the same on the inside. We used a brown and white egg. We talked about how they are different - color, size, shape, etc. I asked them what it would look like if we cracked them - will they look the same? Some said yes and some said now.
Our classroom door.
Our sight word poem: they.
Cutting out groups of people to show the sight word they. We put those in our journals.
We worked with building sentences and putting them in correct order.
In magazines we found the letters: o and f. We glued them together to build the word: of.
