And we're off!!!

Being back in school is amazing!  I can't believe how much I missed it and I was only gone for two weeks!  The Kindergartners adjusted really well with the transition and are becoming more familiar on how I do things in Kindergarten.  I can't believe how many bright young learners I have.

Did I mention that all the elementary classrooms got those new boards put in this year?!?  Well we did and oh my I am in LOVE!! I can't not believe what we can all do on there, how to incorporate into our lessons/activities and centers!  I am not sure on who loves it more...the Kindergartners or myself.  They like it especially during our 'rest' time when we get to watch a movie every now and then for a 'treat.'

Here we are doing some word work.  They each choose a letter: A, B, or C. They grabbed their journals and had to go find 3 words with that had the letter in it that they choose.

This week we in our reading we read a story called The Little Yellow Bus and we were also learning about the letter Cc.  We made a yellow bus craft and added a poem with some "c" words that we had to add to our poem.

We finished up our 5 senses unit in Science.  Here is one of the crafts that they did.  We worked on labeling and identifying which parts we use for our senses.

Working on some centers.

Center Work:  They had to choose a letter tile and color in the apple that matched the tile.

Center:  Playdough! (one of their favorites)

Here are our 5 senses projects out in the hallway.

One of our sight words we learned this last week and the poem to go with it.  This song is sung to: If you're happy and you know it!

In Social Studies we started to learn about families.  We first talked about our own families to start off the unit.  Then we filled in our "Families" chart.  We discussed how families are the same and different from each other. We also talked about about some of the things we do together as a family that we really enjoy doing.

Family sort.  They had to find pictures to match each category for our family.  They had to find pictures of: Mommies and Daddies; Brothers and Sisters; Grandpas and Grandmas and also Pets.

One of our crafts we made were our family trees.  We read a story about a little girl who was making her own family tree.  I asked them if they have ever heard of a family tree and I had one that said yes.  It's a tree that has a family living in it - kind of like a tree house but that's their actual house.     - it was a good and close guess/answer.  :)

Doing some center work again.  They had to write the color word on the lines and color the duck to match.  Each sentence said:  I see a _______ duck.

Another family craft we did to end with our unit.  They got to draw their family and trace/write the sentence: This is my family.
