The new school year is here! Where did this summer go!! Kindergarten open house was a successful and a lot of young ones were ready for the first day. Here they are on the first day. This year I have a total of 12 Kindergartners - 10 boys and 2 girls.
The first two days of school we learned about the rules of our classroom and school, got to know each other in our class, took a tour of our school and learned how to meet new friends! Here is a name paint craft we did.
Our bulletin board outside of our classroom!
As most of you knew my husband, son and I welcomed the newest member of our family on July 15. Mr. Keyan James. We are so blessed to have him in our lives and family. When we came back to school I still had two weeks of maternity leave left. I did the first two days to help the Kindergartners get acquainted and situated in the classroom. My sub for the next two weeks came in on Friday to get to know the Kindergartners and see how our day would go. Those two weeks flew by really fast for I will be coming back on Tuesday. I am ready to come back but will most definitely miss my snuggles with this little one.
Mrs. McCoy has done such a great job with the Kindergarten class these last two weeks. I have heard nothing but good things from the other staff members and also from the Kindergartners. She has been teaching them to identify their names as well as reviewing the ABC's, numbers, shapes and colors. I had the opportunity to take some pictures of what they have been doing in Kindergarten when I went to get my son and get the next day ready for Kindergarten.
They did a unit with the story Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom! They learned to identify their names as well as the letters in their names. Here is the art craft they did.
This past week in Science the Kindergartners have been learning about their 5 senses. They worked with one sense a day. They learned how we use our senses every day, sometimes without knowing it. We also can use more than one sense at a time.
"Senses" anchor chart that we used along with stories to learn about our senses.
To learn about our sense: hearing, the Kindergartners went outside on a listening walk. They went outside for a few minutes and used their ears to listen to things around them. When they came back in, they grab their journals and had to draw a picture of what they heard. Here are some of the journal entries.
We started our math curriculum this last week. We started to learn how to sort items by shape, color and same items. Here is an entry from their journals on one of the activities that they did to sort things that are alike.
