Start of Spring!

Bring on the warm weather!! We lately have been getting very spoiled with such the nice weather!  I hope it stays that way and Spring comes fast!
The year is starting to wind down but it hasn't stopped the Kindergartners.  We have been keeping busy.  We recently learned about our primary and secondary colors as well as mixing our colors.

This is one of my favorite books to read to introduce your primary and secondary colors as well as learning to mix colors.  I highly recommend not only to other teachers but to parents to have in their home library.  It involves your child which makes it even more fun!

In math we just started learning about weight and capacity.  Here we are determining how much different objects can hold and which one holds more.

A St. Patrick's craft we did to help spruce up our room.

Learning about weight.  They worked in groups to determine heavy vs. light objects.

On St. Patrick's Day we had a very mischievous leprechaun visit our room.  He put all of the Kindergartners on red.  They kind of enjoyed being on red for once since none of them have made it there yet (which is a good thing).  I told them that I now had to call their parents even though I just got done talking to all of them the night before at parent/teacher conferences.

When we came back from our morning recess, we had a little note left for us.  I am thinking is leprechaun should come to Kindergarten with us so he can learn how to spell.

They had a blast with this clover scavenger hunt.  We found all 11!!

Throughout the day we noticed little doings from Lucky.  He put our schedule backwards!

Doing some math center work.

Since Lucky put all of us on red, we thought we should make him a clip of his own and place him on red with us.

In Science we have been learning about the different types of matter.  We first started learning about paper and cloth and how we can change it.  They had a homework assignment.  They had to change a paper bag into a puppet and then tell us how they changed other items to make their puppet.  We each showed off our puppets then I split them into groups and they had to come up with a puppet play for us.  They did very good!  I was very impressed with their little puppet performances as well as their creative puppets!

A pig, buffalo and zebra puppet.

A calf, cow and dog puppet.

An Easter bunny, police officer and Olaf puppet.

Since Spring is just around the corner we listed some spring words to help us out with our writing.

They had to choose five Spring words/items that they liked about Spring.

Our bulletin board in our classroom.

In Science we learned about another type of matter: clay.  We listed things that were made out of clay.  We made our own batch of clay and they each got to shape their clay into what they wanted.  We baked them for an hour to see how they have changed.

The creations before they were put in the oven.

Our rainbow flowers.  We learned about the colors of the rainbow and the order of the colors.

A writing to go with our rainbow flowers.

Here are our clay creations after they were baked and painted.  They turned out very neat!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!!!

This past week was Read Across America Week.  This is the week where schools all over the country celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday.  We celebrated his birthday the whole entire week in Kindergarten.  We had a theme that went with the books that we were reading for each day.

Monday:  Pajama Day! - we read the books: Green Eggs and Ham  and  Horton Hears a Who

Tuesday: Red, White and Black Day!  - we read the books The Cat in the Hat and Hop on Pop

Wednesday:  Wacky Wednesday/Crazy Sock Day  - we read the books: Fox in Socks  and Wacky Wednesday

Thursday: Rainbow Day  - we read the books One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish and There's a Wocket in my Pocket

Before we read the book Green Eggs and Ham we listed some items that were green.  They each got to list one item.  We then wrote a sentence and colored the picture of the object the choose.  We turned our writing into a class book.

Along with our pajama day, we made green eggs and ham after reading our story.  While eating our eggs and ham we watched the little cartoon of Green Eggs and Ham

Our chart after eating green eggs and ham.

Here are some class pictures of them on pajama day!

Rhyming Cat in the Hat words.  They had to list words on the Cat's hat that were in the -at family.

Making our Cat in the Hat craft.

Our bulletin board in our classroom.

The hats finished and put up! They turned out amazing!

During our busy week we started one of our St. Patrick's crafts - name rainbows.

A class picture on Wacky Wednesday.

Rhyming words in our socks.

Watching 'Horton Hears a Who.'

After reading A Wocket in My Pocket we did a little handwriting craft.  We worked with -ocket words.  We changed the first letter of pocket and came up with some silly things that were in our pockets.  They then had to draw a picture of their 'creature' in their pocket.

Doing some Goldfish math.

They each had to decorate a sock that they would like the fox to wear.

Our craft for One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.  They had to write next to each fish the title of the book.
