This week the Kindergartners learned about animals that live in the grasslands. We also added learning some animal baby names. We also worked with numbers 0-5 and graphing. Our letter of the week was the letter Pp.
The Kindergartners' were introduced the word: adjectives. We started off learning about color, shape, and size adjectives. We did an activity where we name an animal and then tried to come up with as many adjectives to go with it.
Here is our adjective anchor chart that we filled out before we did out activity.
Our new sight word were: my, we, and like. Along with the number eight.
Here they are cutting up the letters and gluing them correctly to spell out the words.
We had a visitor from the UNL Extension office of Cedar County. Jackie Steffen came to our room to talk to us about germs and how we can 'sink' them.
We are learning how bacteria can start with just one and than after 20 minutes there can be over 500 bacteria on your arm, fingers, etc!
Learning how bacteria can still be on our plates after we wash them. We learned that we need to make sure our dishes and other items get cleaned properly and to sanitize them as well.
Here they are putting on the orange germ lotion. This lotion will show neon orange when a black light is turned on.
They got to see the 'germs' with the black light before we went to go wash our hands. We had to use what we learned to wash our hands. Make sure we wash for 20 seconds (sing Happy Birthday or ABC's -2 times) and to wash your finger tips, thumbs, back of hands and our nails. :)
Here we are checking to see if we washed our hands good and if we got all those germs off.
Our letter Pp poem. They had to find all the letter Pp's in the poem and draw a face on the pumpkin depending on what it said to draw. These went into our journals.
Working on some centers. Writing our color words.
Center time writing our sight words.
Center time - using stencils and tracing some grassland/zoo animals.
Monday was Columbus Day. We learned about him a day later due to not having school. We read two books about him and filled out an anchor chart based on what we learned about him. We also made one of the three boats Christopher Columbus had, the Santa Maria.
Here are our hermit crabs that we did during our ocean unit. I must say they did very well and were very creative!
To go with learning about grassland animals we also learned about the grassland animals that we can see in zoos. We read a very cray and funny story about a zoo where all the animals were underpants.
After reading the story, we of course had to design and draw underpants on our animals. Here are some of the creations!
Making pasta patterns for letter Pp.
More center work. Identifying the beginning letter sound of the picture and writing it.
