Happy birthday Johnny Appleseed!!

This week was a very busy and eventful week for the Kindergarten!  It not only was our week to learn about apples and Johnny Appleseed, but it was also our homecoming!  Let's just say they were full of energy all week which made learning even more fun during the day!!

Doing some math centers.  They had to count the stickers on the leaves, color the leaf the correct color and write the number of stickers in the box.  

Leaf Shape math.  They had to color the leaf the correct color and draw the shape in the box.

More math centers:  roll a leaf.  They had to roll a dice, count the dots and find the matching number leaf and color it. 

To help with our coloring here is our new Star Coloring chart.  This visual will help us see what star coloring looks like and help us to keep working hard. 

The letter of the week was the letter Tt.  We thought up of some T words to fill up our giant letter Tt.

Writing some Tt words into our journals and drawing a picture to go with them. 

To go along with our Tt words, we made a dump Truck.  We made it so our truck is dumping out some Tt words. They had to write three words being dumped out of the truck. 

Our color word of the week was brown.  We read "Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?"  They had to draw a brown bear in their journal and an animal that it saw.  They then had to write the color word of their animal.

Our new fall decor in the hallway!  They mixed some fall colors onto a leaf and glued it onto some black paper to help 'pop' it out. 

We read two stories about Johnny Appleseed.  We wrote down some facts that we learned from our stories about Johnny Appleseed onto our Johnny Appleseed anchor chart. 

We used our Johnny Appleseed anchor chart to fill out a character map.  They got to decide what we should put on the character map.

Since Johnny Appleseed wore a pot on his head, we did a writing activity and made a pot to put it on.  They had to write a sentence on what they learned about Johnny Appleseed from our anchor chart. 

Another writing activity we did was we discussed about what we all can make with apples.  They had to color their apple either red, yellow or green and then write what their apple was turned into.  They had to choose what their favorite apple thing is.  

We also learned the parts of an apple and also learned about labels.  They then got to label their own apple. 

Working on some literacy centers: stamping out some letters onto play dough.

On Thursday we taste tested our apples.  Here is our taste testing sheet that we used.  

Roll a Johnny Appleseed. 

For a math activity we worked with our apples that we brought.  They had to weigh them and count how many bears it was.  They also had to put a string around their apple to see how many cubes and animals long it is. 

On Wednesday, I brought in some applesauce that I made last year and canned for them to try.  Some liked it and some did not.  We then got to make our own applesauce on Friday!

 We also learned about the life cycle of apple trees and how they change in each season. 

In Winter the branches are bare, Spring the green leaves start to appear, Summer the pink flowers start to bloom and last in Fall the flowers turn into apples!!
