This past week the preschoolers had a very fun filled week! The week's theme was around nursery rhymes. We learned about: Humpty Dumpty (Monday), Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (Wednesday), and Hey Diddle Diddle (Friday). The letter of the week was letter Ee, number was 9 and color: gray. Here are the pictures from the week!
I boiled some eggs and left some unboiled. After we sang Humpty Dumpty we talked about what happened to him when he fell off the wall, we had many different responses, so we did an activity to see what would happen. I had a boiled egg and one unboiled egg. We compared the sizes of each egg, how each one felt and how they rolled. We pushed each egg off of our 'wall' to see what happened. The preschoolers didn't know that one was cooked and one wasn't. We pushed the boiled egg off first and the unboiled egg second.
After we saw what happened to our two eggs, we then started to talk about the differences between an uncooked egg and a cooked egg. I then prompted a question, what can we make with eggs. Oh boy was I in for a surprise. :) They were naming all sorts of foods that had eggs (you can sure tell that a lot of them help at home with cooking!). One child stated that we can make scrambled eggs, so that is exactly what we did! We made scrambled eggs and ate Humpty Dumpty!
Here we are enjoying Humpty Dumpty!
I tell him to say cheese and he puts up his hands! :) What a goof ball!
After eating Humpty Dumpty, they each got their own Humpty Dumpty to decorate.
After decorating we of course just had to push him off our wall, so that is exactly what we did. Each child got a chance to push their Humpty Dumpty off the wall.
One of our art projects was to patch up Humpty Dumpty! It was a great way to work those fine motor skills by opening band-aids and placing them on the cracks. They had to put their egg puzzle together before they could bandage him up.
Wednesday we learned about Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. They each got to make a star puppet. We did a shooting star craft (sorry didn't get a picture of them). They are hanging from our ceiling right now. They did an amazing job painting them. There are some very colorful stars up!
The number of the week was number 9. They got to water color their number nine. After they were done painting they had to count out nine sets of eyes and stick them onto their paper. Ee is for eyes! :)
