Happy October!! Where did this month go? It seemed like it flew by really fast! The Kinders stayed very busy these last few weeks.
This activity was part of our Pp is for pumpkin week. We read the story If You Give a Pig a Party. Great book for the letter Pp!
After we read the book we listed as many Pp words as we could. We used those words to make a party invitation and list what we will have at our party. Our party was a Pp party, so the items at our party started with the letter Pp!
Our reading story was Animal Babies in the Grasslands. We learned and match baby animals with their mommies as well as learning baby animal names. We read a fun silly book and identified some of the animals that were in our grassland book. They loved this book and laughed at some of their underpants. One of the kinders said that one of the animals had a pair of underpants like him! :)
After reading our story we used our adjectives to describe some of those underpants from our story. They then got to choose an animal from the story and draw/design a new pair of underpants for that animal. They had to use their adjectives to describe their picture to us.
Letter Cc was the letter of the week. We did some candy corn tasting. We had three flavors: original, chocolate, and caramel apple. It's crazy how many different flavors I found of candy corn! I just stick to three flavors to make our decision a little easier.
They first had to circle the letter Cc's in the word: candy corn.
After trying each type of candy corn they had to choose their favorite. Once they chose their favorite they had to color their candy corn to look like the one they picked.
Circling letter Cc's in our poem: How Much Wood Would a Woodchuck Chuck?
This tongue twister was hard to say but quite amusing to listen to. They all got a chuckle at listening to each other try to say the poem.
We then read a story: If You Give a Cat a Cupcake. We listed Cc words that make the /k/ sound and then made a cupcake full of Cc words!
We learned about how Cooks make some yummy things and the word Cook starts with the letter Cc!! We made some Cook hats!! Since we made a cooks hat, we had to be an actual cook/chef.....
so...... we decorated cupcakes!!! They got to spread frosting, add sprinkles, yummy candies and color spray to change their frosting color!
Here we worked on some witchy adjectives with listening. I told them how to color the witch. For example: the witch has blue hair, a purple strip with orange dots on her hat.
Our monster in a jar writing activity.
Mrs. Jackie Steffen from UNL Cedar County Extension came in on Monday to help set a world record. We participated in Read for the Record. This story: The Bear Ate My Sandwich is being read to students all over the United States. Each year they try to beat their previous record to how many kids were read this story. After the story they participated in an activity with her.
Thanks again Jackie!
We made a Kindergarten Brew for our snack on Halloween. They had to list some ingredients that they think would actually part of the brew. What they didn't know was that they were going to actually eat some of those (not really but the items were to resemble them). :)
Writing down the ingredients we wanted in the brew.
Mixing up our brew.
Happy Halloween!
We next learned short I - we made igloos for the letter Ii.
Our sight word work: he.
