Happy Turkey Day!!!

The Kindergartners have a lot to be thankful for!  We talked about what being thankful means, the first Thanksgiving, Pilgrims, Native Americans, Squanto and of course...turkeys!

One of our letters was the letter: Nn - we made some nightly Nn's.

In Science we learned about the rain forests and the animals that live there.  They had to draw what they think a rain forest looks like.  After we drew our pictures, we then listened to some rain forest sounds.  They had to listen to all the types of sounds that are in the rain forest and remember a few.  We came back and listed what we all heard.

Paint dotting our sight word: me.

To continue with the letter Nn we made a nest full of Nn words.

We also learned the letter Bb this week.  We made a bat and baseball Bb.

Paint dotting our sight word: she.

Sight word work.

We read the book The Best Turkey Thanksgiving.  We identified if the story was real or make believe.  It was make believe.  We then listed why these turkeys were make believe and then compared them to what real turkeys do.

Real or make believe turkey sort.

When we learned about the First Thanksgiving, we also learned about the Pilgrims and the Native Americans.  We talked about how Squanto helped the Pilgrims by teaching them how to use the land in order to have food and survive.

We made some turkeys on strike and put them in the lunch room!

Filling out some adjectives about the Pilgrims.

We read the story: Turkey Trouble.  Farmer Jake's turkey did not want to be Thanksgiving dinner so he started to dress up in disguises to fool the farmer.
The Kindergartners had to come up with a new disguise for Turkey to help fool Farmer Jake.  They turned out super cute!!

Rudolph the red nosed turkey.

Elsa the snow turkey.

Our Pilgrim craft along with our Pilgrim writing.  They learned that Pilgrim boys and girls had different chores to do.  We compared them to the chores we do now.   The girls had to write a sentence about the girl Pilgrims and the boys wrote a sentence about the boy Pilgrims.

Working on our Native American hats.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

We read a story called:  Thanksgiving Rules.  This little boy had a list of rules to help make sure that you would get the best out of Thanksgiving.  We identified some of the foods that were mentioned in the story.  They had to pretend they were going to make Thanksgiving dinner for their family and they had to make a grocery list.  They got to choose the foods they wanted and then write their list.

Since Squanto helped the Pilgrims grow corn, we learned about corn.  We learned there are three types of corn:  popcorn (oldest type of corn). field corn and sweet corn.
We also learned about items that are made with the help of corn such as:
glue, plastic, soaps, cleaners, diapers, tires, toothpaste, chips, candy
These are just a few of the very long list!
