Happy birthday Johnny Appleseed!!

This last week was quite a BUSY week for Kindergarten.  Not only was it apple week but it was also our schools' homecoming!! Our week was filled with crazy costumes and lots of craziness!! We all had fun and survived! :)

This week in math we finished up out chapter with patterns and then started with learning to count one to one and finding/identifying groups with more or less.  Here they are making patterns with our stamps.

Our door decor this September.  They water colored their name leaves.  It feels like we just put them up now that September is over. Stay tuned for our October door decor!

Our painted paper plate owls!  They turned out super duper cute!! The saying says it all! We are for sure having a HOOT in Kindergarten!

Our letter was the letter Tt for the week.  They are making a tractor out of the letter Tt.  They turned out Totally Terrific!

An independent center they did.  They had to pull a letter from the pile, identify it, find it on their sheet and then color the apple.

Writing down some Tt words on our rocks for our Truck!

They put those Tt words in their truck.  It then became a Truck load of Tt words!

Not only did we learn about Johnny Appleseed, we learned about apples themselves.  We learned about the parts of an apple, as well as labels.  We labeled items around in our room and labeled an apple.

Working hard on our apple labeling craft.

Another Tt activity we did was making train tracks!  We read a story about trains (not only because it starts with Tt but it is also a type of transportation).  Our reading stories this week were about different types of transportation.   Our totally terrific train tracks using graham crackers, frosting and pretzels!  Not only was it fun to make, but it was sure yummy!

We brainstormed some items that we can make using apples.  We read our story and then added some other items that we can make with apples.

They each had to bring in an apple.  We found out who has the heaviest and lightest apple.  Next we counted to see how many blocks our apple weighs.

We then guessed to see how much yarn would fit around our apple.  We had some very good guesses.  They figured out if they have a big apple, they needed lots of yarn! :)

On Friday we made homemade applesauce and let me tell you our classroom smelt amazing the whole day!  Here they are enjoying our snack as well as eating their apple they brought.  While eating snack we watched our Johnny Appleseed video.

Our homecoming theme this week was: Disney.

Each class had to make a homecoming poster to hold in our parade.
We made some Olaf hats and an Olaf sign to hold.
In the movie Frozen, Olaf's famous line is:  Some friends are worth melting for.
We changed it up and put on our posters:
Some people are worth cheering for!

I will say they turned out amazing!  We got a lot of compliments from our hats and posters!

Here are our Johnny Appleseed crafts.  On the apples they each had to write what their apple into.
