Kindergartners going around the room looking for words and writing them in their journals.
Center Work: Identifying which words rhyme with each other.
We read books about Little Quack. We read: Little Quack, Little Quack's Hide and Seek, and Little Quack's New Friend.
In one of the stories, Little Quack was playing hide and seek with the other ducklings. The Kindergartners had to draw a picture of them hiding somewhere.
Center Work: Spelling words
Listening Center
This first week of our Thanksgiving unit, we talked and learned about Pilgrims. We learned what each part of their clothing was called.
Some Pilgrim facts.
They had to list adjectives that described the Pilgrims after reading our stories.
Center work: Roll and sight word.
One of our sight words was: thanks. We talked about what it means to be thankful. They each made a turkey and on two of the feathers they had to list things that they are thankful for. We listed what we each are thankful for before making our turkeys.
In Science, we learned about birds. Here they are blowing paper around the room to get a visual how air pushes the bird up in the air to help them fly.
Our turkeys all finished and on our door!
When we were done with learning about Pilgrims they got to make their Pilgrim hats!
They had a homework assignment to do for the week. We read a book called Turkey Trouble. The turkey was disguising in all these different costumes to hide from the farmer for Thanksgiving. They had to come up with a new disguise for their turkeys. They turned our super cute and were very creative!
Here are our Pilgrim crafts that we made that went along with our writing. They had to write something that they learned about the Pilgrims.
We learned about one thing that the Native Americans gave to the Pilgrims: corn! We learned about the three different types of corn: field corn, sweet corn and popcorn. We learned about what we all use corn for and some items that are made from corn such as tires, diapers, candy corn, toothpaste and tortillas to name a few. We then had a popcorn party! We got to watch the popcorn pop and see if there were any 'old maids' left in the popped kernels.
The Kindergartners started working with putting words in ABC order. They did a very good job!
One of our turkey poems that they put in their journals.
We also talked about some things that we could serve at Thanksgiving instead of turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, stuffing and pumpkin pie. They listed a few good ones! They had to use the anchor chart to put with their turkeys on strike craft.
Here are the turkeys on strike craft.
After learning about the different types of foods that we eat for Thanksgiving, they had to make a grocery list of foods they would need to buy for when Mrs. Bartling came to their Thanksgiving meal. They each had their own grocery list and wrote down some items that they needed. When they were done with their grocery list, they had to draw their meal that they would make on their Thanksgiving plate!
A Thanksgiving poem we put in our journals.
Center work.
We learned what a cornucopia is and cut out and glued pictures of what we are thankful for.
Here are some pictures of our Native American hats we made.
Happy Thanksgiving from the Kindergartners!
