Happy Halloween!!

This last week has been a very busy and exciting week for the Kindergartners, it was Halloween week (finally).  We had a count down and everything, there were pretty pumped and excited for Halloween.
Here they are working on some center work.
They had to identify which letter comes next.

Doing some Owl letter stamping.

Our letter of the week was: Ii (short Ii).

We did our monster unit this week which went perfect with Halloween.  We read the book: Where the Wild Things Are by: Maurice Sendak.  We talked about the word 'wild' and what it means to be wild.

We went over what the word 'wild' means.  We discussed and wrote what we do when we feel wild. They each got to list one.

They each wrote their sentence to go with our Max craft.

Finding our sentence we said and writing it.

Here are our finished Max crafts that we put our writing with.

In Social Studies, we talked about the word: model.  We made models of items using play dough and Lincoln logs.

We reviewed adjectives and described the wild things from our story.

Using our adjective anchor chart they each drew their own 'wild thing' and had to find four adjectives to describe them.

In Science we learned and talked about spiders!  We read several books about spiders and listed some facts to finish our spider fact anchor chart.

To go with our spider unit, we made little pom pom spider crafts.

Another spider book we read was The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle.  We reviewed our sequencing skills and sequenced the animals that were in the story.  If you can see on the board behind our sequencing chart, we learned how to draw a spider.  They did very well!

We made a spider book to review writing our color words.  They had to choose five colors that they wanted to use.  They then had to color their spider and then write the color word on the line.

One of our sight words this week was: for.  Here is our sight word poem.

Center work:
Creating a monster.

Center work:

Center work:

Center work:
They had to color the ghost the correct color and then finish the pattern.

We FINALLY made it to our Halloween party!  I don't know if I had ever seen such an anxious and excited group waiting for their Halloween party that afternoon.

Here were are in our costumes, before we went on our parade around the school.

We came back and got to eat a snack and of course, candy!!

Playing some Halloween games!

The high school student within the students, is Jenna, our high school helper!  They were pretty excited when she came down in the afternoon to play games with them!
