Letter Vv and Zz.

This week was a five day week but it seemed like it went by in a flash.
This week the Kinders learned two letters: Vv and Zz.

Vv is for Vase. With the snow in the weekend forecast and for next week, we hope this spring flowers will help bring Spring and warmer weather.

Zz is for Zoo.

This week we learned about the types of animals that come from eggs. We learned the life cycle of a frog and chicks.
To go with our tadpole/frog lesson we made some hand print frogs to liven up our door.

On Friday we did a fun handwriting activity.  After learning about the different types of animals that laid eggs, we read a story about a cow laying an egg.....?

It's a cute story. :)
After reading the story they had to think of an animal that came out of the egg that the cow laid.

We had a little fun to end our week. :)

Letter Uu and Community Helpers

This week we reviewed the letter Uu.  We identified words that had the vowel in the middle.

This week Jackie came from the extension office to bring in our chick eggs so we could get started on our embryology activity.  She taught us about the different parts of the egg and how the baby chick uses them as they develop.

One of our sight words this week was: under.  We colored a picture UNDER the table.

In Social Studied we had our Community helpers unit.  We talked about the different types of community helpers there were (boy there are a lot!) and why they are so helpful to us.

We focused on: farmers, police officers, doctors and teachers.
We learned that without farmers we would have no food or even ice cream!
We listed what would happen if we didn't have certain community helpers.  The Kinders came to conclusion that we may not be here if we didn't have them and/or life would be hard/bad as well.

Thank you to all the community helpers out there and for all the hard work you do for us!

Here we are making our police officer car craft.

Hoppy Easter!!

I hope everyone had a blessed and happy Easter over the weekend.  It wasn't the greatest weather but I will take it over snowing/raining.  Well at least here is wasn't snowing or raining on Easter.
This last week was a busy and fun week for the Kinders.  We learned the letter Uu, learned two amazing words: truckers and haul, the three states of matter: solid, liquid and gas and did lots of Easter themed activities.

Uu is for Umbrella!  We painted with our thumbs/fingers to add the raindrops.

We read a story If You Were the Easter Bunny.  For one of our handwriting lessons they had to think of one thing they would do if they were the Easter Bunny.

Our Easter Bunnies we made.

Two of our amazing words that went with our reading story this week were: trucker and haul.  We listed lots of different things truckers can haul.
They each got to decorate their truck but they had to think of/draw things they would haul.  They also had to draw a trucker in the window.  If you look closely you will be able to see them. :)

We read the story: The Easter Egg by Jan Brett.  Hoppy had to decorate an egg to present to the Easter Bunny so he would win the contest.
They each had to decorate their egg they would design for the contest.

Here is another story we read.  Clifford changed different colors in this story.

Here is another handwriting lesson we did.  They had to color Clifford a different way like how he changed in our book.

Since we learned the letter Uu we had to do something with the word: Underwear.   This week was a silly week especially when we said the word: underwear.
We read many books about animals in their underwear. :)
Can you say underwear 10 times without smiling or giggling?  It was a hard task to do in the Kindergarten classroom!

After reading our story about the monsters in their underwear.  They each got to decorate their own pair of underwear.

They waited all week for this Science activity which included Popsicles.  In Science this week we talked about: solids, liquids and gases.  We identified each type of matter and also learned that matter can go from solid to liquid and back to solid.  You add heat to change it to a liquid and coldness to change it to a solid.
Our Popsicles started out as a liquid.  We froze them so they would become a solid.  While we were eating them they also pointed out that they were starting to go back to a liquid!
