Happy birthday Dr. Seuss!!!

The week is finally here! This is one of my many favorite weeks of school:  Read Across America!
This week was short three day week due to girls' state ball, but we made the best of it!
The elementary did dress up days for each day.
Monday:  Rainbow Day (to go with One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish)
Tuesday:  Red/Black/White Day - for Cat in the Hat
Wednesday: Wacky Wednesday/Crazy Sock Day/Blue and White day

Here the Kindergartners are making their hats.

Here are our hats all finished!  They turned out great!

All the Kindergartners piled on our teacher's aide: Cody.

This is the hat in among their hats that they made.  This saying is one of my favorites!

Our door decor.

We reviewed our  -at word family and wrote our family words onto our hats.

We read the story: There's a Wocket in My Pocket.  They each drew their item and had to come up with a word that rhymed with -ocket.  They turned out very creative!

Our Thing 1 and Thing 2 writings.

We made green eggs and ham!  We taste tested them and watched the cartoon.

Before we taste tested our green eggs and ham we thought if we would like them.

When we were done eating them, we charted if we did or did not like them.   I had one Kindergartner that loved the ham but not the eggs.  I told him that you can choose which side to put his egg on.

Storms!!

One of our sight words this week was the word: and.  Here is our little poem that helped learn that and helps us connect items.  They each got to write the word and on the line.  Sorry for the short and sweet post - if was a short week for us and I forgot to take pictures........

One of our new amazing words that went along with our reading story.

Here they are doing some handwriting.  In one of our reading stories we read about a little mouse who went around trying to find a new home.  They had to pretend they were the little mouse and choose two animals from the story that they met.  They also had to use our sight word to connect the two animals.

In Social Studies this week we focused on needs and wants.  Here is our chart to help us understand more about what our needs are.

This is an activity that went with the book:  The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear.
We reviewed what adjectives are and listed adjectives about a strawberry.

Our list of adjectives.

Copying our adjectives onto our strawberry.

Our 'want' chart for one of our new Social Studies words.

In Science we learned about storms - what they are, the different types of them and what they can do to us and the Earth.
Here is our new word chart.

This is one of our crafts we did - they finger painted a tornado.  While these were drying they had to cut out 5 pictures from a magazine on what their tornado picked up.  They then had to glue their pictures in their tornado.

We then made our bottle tornado.  They waited all week for this and still love looking/playing with it in the classroom!
