Spring is here!!!

I can't believe Spring is finally here and April is almost over!  Kindergarten has 12 days left of school.  Where did the year go? With the year dwindling down, we still are keeping busy.

Jackie Steffen from the UNL Extension Office came to our classroom for a visit.  Our classroom signed up for: Embryology in Your Classroom.   She came to read to use about the life cycle of a chicken egg as well as explaining the parts of the egg.  She also brought in the incubator along with our chicken eggs.

She is showing us the parts of the incubator and how to care for our eggs.

We learned about the life cycle of a chicken in Science and did a little craft to help remind us.

Our principal had surgery on his right shoulder a week ago.  We made him some get well soon cards as well as colored some pictures for him to help me feel better.  :)

We reviewed our short vowels this week.  We focused on short a and i this week.  Here is a craft we did for short a words.  They made an umbrella and then on each raindrop they had to write a short a word from our list that we made earlier.

One of our sight words this week was 'find.'  We each got these special looking glasses to look around the room to help us 'find' objects and to help us understand more what our sight word means.

Working on our short a craft with our special glasses.

April 21st was National Kindergarten Day!! We celebrated the day by having a pajama day.  We read stories about other children and their adventures they have in Kindergarten.  We then listed some reasons why we love Kindergarten.  Here they are writing 4 reasons on their paper why they love Kindergarten.

Our writing activity.

We also made a quick little craft to show how much we love Kindergarten.

April 22: Earth Day was also during this week.  Another fun day for the Kindergarten.  We learned about the 3 R's: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.  We also learned how to sort objects into groups so they can be recycled.  We looked for the recycling symbol on objects in our room to see how many things are recyclable in our room.  Here are our Earth Day crafts.

Our short i craft.  We listed short i words on an anchor chart.  They each got a 'gift' to decorate.  They then had to write short i words on three 'ribbons' and place them on their gift box.

Our Earth Day craft put up in the hallways.

Writing that went with our Earth Day craft.  We listed ways to help protect our Earth.

We've Gone Buggy!

I can't believe Easter is here and we have less than a month of school left! Where has the year gone?
Here is a Spring craft we did to replace our clovers.  We made bird house wind catchers.

In Science we did our insect unit.  We learned about the parts of an insect and some other characteristics about them as well.  We focused on two main types of insects in this short week.  We learned about fireflies and bees.
Here is a firefly craft that we started.  We attached our wings and a clothespin to the back to make our firefly become a magnet.

We also learned that insects have compound eyes.   Compound eyes are where an insects has more lenses in their regular eyes which makes it hard for them to see.  We used our buggy eyes to look through to see how an insect sees.

They had to look at their partner and draw what they saw in their buggy eye viewers.

Here is our insect anchor chart that we started off our unit with.

Our bee anchor chart.

Our firefly anchor chart.

For an Easter activity we did my teacher's aide and myself hid some eggs for the Kindergartners around the room.
Here they are finding their eggs.

Some have already found their eggs.

Enjoying some goodies in our eggs.

Decorating our own Easter egg.  We did this activity along with reading the book The Easter Egg by Jan Brett.

The finished product!

I hope everyone has a blessed Easter with your family and friends!
Happy Easter!
